Mover Help Center

Completing the mover application

The 10 steps that determine your approval — welcome, about, experience, skills, equipment, service area, company, identity, agreements, review.

Overview

The mover application is a 10-step wizard at /apply that collects everything our admin team needs to approve you: identity, experience, skills, equipment, service area, company affiliation (optional), and signed agreements. It saves as you go, so you can leave and come back without losing work.

Why this feature exists

Customers on Move Gigs Board hire strangers to enter their homes and handle valuables. The application is how we verify you are a real person with real experience before you appear in front of any customer. Every field maps to a badge, a filter, or a decision on your public profile.

Before You Begin

Gather these before you start — you will move faster if everything is on your phone or desktop:

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport)
  • A clear headshot for your profile
  • Your legal name, date of birth, phone, and home address
  • ZIP codes or cities you are willing to serve
  • List of skills (loading, unloading, packing, piano, safe, POD, etc.) and years of experience
  • List of equipment you own (dolly, straps, blankets, tools, truck)
  • Optional: company name and owner contact if you already work for a moving company that uses the platform

Step-by-step instructions

1. Welcome

Read the intro screen. It explains the 10 steps and how long they take (~20 minutes).

What happens next: clicking Continue creates a draft application row so we can save your progress.

2. About

Enter legal first name, last name, date of birth, phone, and preferred display name.

What happens next: we validate you are 18+ and check the phone format.

3. Experience

Enter total years of moving experience, past employers if any, and a short professional bio (150–500 characters).

What happens next: the bio becomes the "About Me" section of your public profile after approval.

4. Skills

Select from grouped skills: Loading, Unloading, Packing, Unpacking, Furniture Assembly, Piano, Safe, POD Loading/Unloading, U-Haul, Penske, Budget, Long-Distance, Office, Apartment, Storage Unit. Pick everything you can honestly do well.

What happens next: skills become filter tags customers use to find you and gate access to specialty rate tiers.

5. Equipment

Check every piece of equipment you personally own or can bring: appliance dolly, furniture dolly, moving straps, moving blankets (count matters), shrink wrap, tools, hand truck, four-wheel dolly, ratchet straps, own truck.

What happens next: the count of verified equipment items determines your equipment tier (Standard → Silver → Gold → Platinum) and unlocks higher-paying moves.

6. Service Area

Enter your home ZIP code and the radius (10, 25, 50 miles) or list specific cities and ZIPs you will drive to.

What happens next: the Move Board filters jobs to your service area automatically.

7. Company

If you work for a moving company already on the platform, search for it and request affiliation. Otherwise skip.

What happens next: the company owner gets a notification to approve or deny. Approval unlocks company compensation agreements later.

8. Identity

Upload the front and back of your government ID and a selfie holding it. Enter your Social Security number or ITIN for the background check.

What happens next: the SSN is encrypted at rest. The background check runs after you submit the whole application.

9. Agreements

Read and sign three documents: Independent Contractor Agreement, Code of Conduct, and Damage Responsibility Acknowledgment. Type your full name and click Sign.

What happens next: we record your IP, timestamp, and browser to create a legally binding signature record.

10. Review

Scroll through every section. Use the "Edit" button on any card to jump back and fix a mistake. Click Submit Application when everything is correct.

What happens next: the application enters submitted status, we generate a reference ID (e.g. APP-2026-01234), and admin review begins. You will get an email when the status changes.

Helpful Tips

  • Save and quit any time — the wizard remembers your spot for 30 days.
  • Upload high-resolution photos. Blurry ID scans are the #1 reason applications get sent back.
  • Be honest about experience. Overstating skills leads to bad reviews, which crush your Quality Score.

Common Mistakes

  • Skipping equipment counts. "12 moving blankets" scores higher than "moving blankets: yes". Enter real numbers.
  • Vague service area. "Southeast US" is not usable. Give ZIP codes.
  • Using a nickname as your legal name. Your legal name must match the ID.

Troubleshooting

  • Upload fails on ID photo. Files must be under 10 MB and JPG/PNG/HEIC. Retake with less compression.
  • Company search returns nothing. Your employer may not be on the platform yet. Skip Step 7 and add affiliation later from /mover/companies.
  • Submit button is disabled. Scroll up — one section will have a red "Incomplete" badge. Fix it and the button unlocks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the application take? About 20 minutes if you have your ID and equipment list ready.

Can I edit after submitting? Only through admin review. Once approved, you edit your profile, skills, and equipment freely from /mover/profile.

Do I need a truck? No. Truckless movers work loading and unloading jobs. Owning a truck unlocks more listings.
